RYDER

The city didn’t hide her well.

Even if I hadn’t tailed the police car to her apartment, I still would’ve been able to find her like she was a fucking beacon. Dash thought I was crazy. I’d never talked the guys into keeping someone for a week, let alone followed them home.

I stared up at the modest apartment that didn’t fit my memory of her. She’d built her little city cave inside a seven-story, brick block with iron railings and potted plants that tried too hard.

I’d walked in looking like a delivery guy and found her apartment on the call list. Tonight I was returning to my Sweet Daisy. I waited outside long enough to memorize the rhythm of lights in her apartment, the way her curtains glowed a soft amber when she finally settled, and then turned dark. Still, I waited.

Hood up, I walked into the building that lacked any security to speak of and made my way up the elevator to the top floor. I stepped out into the hallway and looked both ways. All was quiet. No cameras. Perfect.

Pulling my little kit out of my pocket, I stuck the two pieces of metal into the lock, and it took all of three seconds to get the door open. Locks were for people who believed in rules and thought they kept people like me at bay.

My shadow stretched into the small hallway that led directly into the open concept living room and kitchen. I followed her scent. The sweet shampoo and body wash aroma got stronger the closer I came to her bedroom. Sweet Daisy’s door was open.

Looking into her room, I smirked. She lay on her bed with an arm over her head and the blankets only covering half of her body. Slipping in like a shadow, I walked around to stare at her beautiful face. Fuck, I wanted to keep her. It wasn’t our way, but I was really starting to think, who gave a fuck.

Leaning in close, I sniffed her skin, and her scent filled me, making me hard. The faint trace of the forest still clung to her clothes. She looked…innocent…almost. But my Sweet Daisy wasn’t innocent anymore, not after what we’d carved into her.

Her lashes fluttered and her lips twitched as if she were in a dream. The rise and fall of her chest was steady. I could have stood there forever.

But I was not a patient man when it came to her.

I curled my fingers around the end of the blanket and tugged it down slow and steady. The fabric slipped over her body inch by inch, exposing the curve of her hip, and the end of the cotton shirt that barely covered her sexy ass. I pulled until she was completely vulnerable to my greedy eyes. She murmured and pressed her thighs together like she already knew I was nearby.

“Sweet Daisy,” I whispered. “Are you wet for me?”

Her breath hitched, and a soft moan spilled from her lips. She arched, lifting her hips into nothing.
